Woman killed after being struck by train in Gibson County
GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A woman was killed Monday morning after being struck by a train, according to the Gibson County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Gibson County Sheriff Paul Thomas, the department got the call around 10 a.m. about a woman being struck by a train.
The incident occurred near Cades Atwood Road outside Atwood in east Gibson County near the Carroll County line.
Authorities have not identified the woman. The sheriff said she was not in a vehicle and did not have any identification.
The train engineer attempted to signal to the woman with the train whistle before she was hit, according to the sheriff.
Sheriff Thomas says it is unclear why the woman was on the tracks and that the investigation is ongoing.
