Crews searching for teen in Cumberland River find body
LEBANON, Tenn. (AP) – Rescue crews searching for a 17-year-old boy who police say dove into the Cumberland River from about 30 feet above the water have found a body.
Wilson County Emergency Management Agency Director Joey Cooper told media that authorities are checking with family members to determine whether the body is that of the teen.
Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan has said the boy did not emerge from the water near Old Hickory Lake after jumping in on Monday afternoon.
Bryan says the boy was with two other youths in a bluff area where he says deputies have stopped people from jumping from before. Bryan estimated the jump to be between 30 and 40 feet.
Search crews called off the search Monday night when conditions became too dark and resumed Tuesday morning.
