Early voting begins Friday for state primary & general election

JACKSON, Tenn. — Early voting for the state primary and general election begins Friday, July 12.

VoteWith more than 40 candidates on the ballots, voters have no shortage of choices.

The general election includes three uncontested County Commission seats, register of deeds and four school board positions, two of which are contested.

Voters can also opt to grab a state primary ballot.

“The big interesting race in this is the Congressional District 8 seat,” Election Commissioner Kim Buckley said.

All of Madison County falls into District 8, she said.

With no incumbent running for the U.S. House of Representatives seat in our area, it’s a crowded Republican field. Thirteen candidates are vying for the nomination.

Early voting ends July 30. Buckley recommends taking advantage of heading to the polls before election day, Aug. 4.

Those who qualify could choose to vote absentee. “Anybody over 60 can vote absentee if you’re going to be out of the country during the entire early voting period and during Election Day,” Buckley said. “You can apply with us.”

Those interested in voting absentee can apply at the Madison County Election Commission offices located at 311 North Parkway.

Buckley said all voters are required to bring a state or federally issued photo ID to vote.
