Lane College hosts “Praise Break”, dozens offer prayer for the nation

JACKSON, Tenn.- Dozens gather in prayer Tuesday night at Lane College, in light of recent events across the country.

About 50 community members gathered for what Lane calls a “Praise Break.” Those in attendance, many of whom are students, had the chance to talk with leaders and pose tough questions about what’s happened in our country over the last week.

Organizers said it is about seizing the opportunity to make this a teaching moment.

“I hope that they will one, learn about how to live now in this community but then also that they might aspire to be leaders also,” said
Dr. Logan Hampton, president of Lane College.

“It’s the beginning of developing that communication with a younger generation who eventually will take the reigns and lead,” said Lt. Derick Tisdale with the Jackson Police Department.

Dr. Hampton said he hopes these kinds of discussions could lead students into leadership positions in law enforcement as well.
