Sheriff: Woman killed by train has been identified

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Officers have identified the woman who was killed Monday morning when struck by a train.

pic-traintracks.jpgThe sheriff’s office has not yet released the woman’s name.

According to Gibson County Sheriff Paul Thomas, his department was able to identify the woman with the help of the Jackson Police Department using fingerprints obtained from the victim.

The woman’s name will be released once officers have notified her next of kin, according to the sheriff.

Thomas says the case is still under investigation to determine why the woman was on the railroad tracks.
