Summer Celebration Lawn & Garden show kicks off Thursday

JACKSON, Tenn. — Workers set up Wednesday for the Summer Celebration Lawn and Garden Show. It starts Thursday morning at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center on Airways Boulevard in Jackson.

lawn“It’s a great time to come and learn about gardening,” Ginger Rowsey, communications specialist, said. “See the botanical gardens here and see what works well.”

The theme this year is The Garden of Eatin’. “We’ve incorporated vegetables in with our ornamentals to kind of show people you don’t have to have one or the other, you can mix them up,” Jason Reeves, curator of the gardens, said.

Workers organized and tagged plants for Thursday’s big sale, hosted by the Master Gardeners.

Rowsey said in the past they’ve had thousands of people come out for the event. “So come early if you want to get the best deals at the plant sale and with our many vendors that are going to be here,” she said.

The event also includes tours of the gardens, educational talks, free pH soil level testing and a diagnostic tent. “Where experts can help you handle those plant problems you have at home,” Rowsey said.

Rowsey said artists from the West Tennessee Artisan Trail will also sell fine art and handcrafted jewelry.

Admission costs $5. Kids younger than 18 are free. The Summer Celebration Lawn and Garden Show kicks off at 9 a.m. Thursday. Garden talks start at 10 a.m.
