Voters cast ballots on first day of early voting
JACKSON, Tenn. — Madison County voters cast ballots Friday on the first day of early voting.
Jarvis McIntee said he came hoping to avoid lines on Election Day. “I’m just here to do that right now and get it over with,” he said.
Madison County races include register of deeds along with school board and county commission seats. “I hope the one I vote for really gets it,” Katherine Burruss, a voter, said.
People can also vote in the Democratic or Republican state primary. The race for the eighth congressional seat includes 13 Republicans and two Democrats. Two seats in the State House of Representatives are also up for grabs.
“I think there’s maybe a little tendency for people to look ahead toward the November presidential election, but there’s some important choices to be made on this one,” Madison County Administrator of Elections Kim Buckley said.
Buckley said typically the biggest day for early voting is the last day. “We’re optimistic that it will pick up as we go along,” she said.
People told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News early voting makes the process easier and quicker. They encouraged others to do the same.
“Always early vote,” Burruss said. “I said I’m going to get it out of the way.”
“You should just get out there and vote so you can go make a difference,” McIntee said.
Madison County voters can cast ballots at the Madison County Complex Auditorium on North Parkway in Jackson. Early voting runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
You must have a state or federally issued photo ID.
Early voting runs through July 30. Election Day is Aug. 4.
