Community of Humboldt comes together to show love

HUMBOLDT, Tenn — One girl with a vision to unify the city of Humboldt.

“Humboldt chooses love over individual things. We choose to stand united,” event organizer, Chantell Houston said.

Houston organized the  love march after seeing the different events happening across the country and wanted to take a stand.

Screen Shot 2016-07-16 at 6.11.11 PM“I just thought it would be nice for us to show solidarity for the city because we all stand together in one thing and that’s love and it’s all about love,” Houston said.

The march started at Bailey Park and after a quick prayer, over twenty people of all races marched peacefully into  downtown Humboldt.”

Community members say they came out to show the city of Humboldt is united.

“We want to show one love, one community and that we’re all in this together,” Humboldt resident, Tonya Sherron said. “We want to support each other and love each other and that’s the only way we are going to get past a lot of things that are going on today.”

” I just thought it was important that I support my community in this way, that’s going to send a big statement to the world that all lives matter and I wanted to support this,” Humboldt resident, Claire Flippin said.

Houston says seeing the support filled her with gratitude..

“These people saw what I was doing was for a good cause and they decided to come out and support me,” Houston said. “The mayor, police chief, everybody and I greatly appreciate it.”

The community says events like these must keep going.

“We have a good close bond with each other and we need to do more things like this like come out and fellowship together,” supporter Zharea Walker said. “I’m just really excited.”
