Jackson-Madison Co. School registration begins for fall semester
JACKSON, Tenn. — It may be hard to believe, but Jackson-Madison County Schools start back in just two weeks. Registration began Monday for the new school year.
Parents filled out paperwork Monday and prepared to start the new school year.
“In the instance that they were accepted under open enrollment or through one of our magnet programs, they just go to that school office to register,” said Catherine Korth, leader of assessment and accountability for JMCSS.
“Those offices will be open 8 to 3 this week and next week,” Korth said.
Parents with returning students need to bring proof of residency, photo ID and the registration card that was mailed home. If you have moved or have a new student starting kindergarten this year, a few more items are needed.
“They need to bring their photo ID with them, they need to bring a copy of their child’s birth certificate, and shot record, Social Security card so that they can get them enrolled in initial enrollment,” Korth said.
School leaders said the most trouble that parents run into is not having all the required documents. Going through the checklist will save you time when you get to registration.
Kindergartners need to be 5 years old by or on Aug. 15 of this year. Plus, kindergarten parents should also have three proofs of their current address and bring their student’s updated physical.
“Certain shots are required by the school system,” said Brandon Sims, a pediatrics nurse practitioner at Physicians Quality Care. “Everyone knows about the one going into the first grade. Children going into the seventh grade need a least to have a tetanus booster.”
“That is given as an immunity booster, but it’s also a chance to give some additional immunizations,” Sims said.
Registering for school can take as little as 10 minutes if you are prepared or as long as 30 minutes.
