Kenton Mayor Virginia Davidson has died

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Longtime Kenton Mayor Virginia Davidson passed away Monday morning, according to city officials.

Davidson began working for the city of Kenton as the city recorder in August 1969 and retired from that position in 1999. She then successfully ran for mayor that same year.

She served as mayor of Kenton since then besides the 2006 to 2010 term. Davidson was the first woman to serve as mayor of Kenton.

City officials say Davidson died around 9:30 a.m. Monday at Regional Hospital in Jackson.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized.
