Another judge recuses himself from Hinds County DA case

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A second judge has recused himself from a case against Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith, who was accused of aiding criminal defendants last month.

The Clarion-Ledger reports Hinds County Court Judge William Skinner filed an order recusing himself on Monday, and Judge Melvin Priester Sr. recused himself from the case two weeks ago.

Both recusals follow Hinds County Circuit Judge Jeff Weill’s administrative order filed last month to temporarily remove Smith from participating in cases on the judge’s court docket.

An attorney for Smith filed a second motion to dismiss charges against the prosecutor last week, citing documents the state attorney general’s office has filed under seal.
