“Leader in Me” program takes place at Issac Lane Elementary
JACKSON, Tenn — A new program is being implemented into Issac Lane Elementary School. The “Leader In Me” program gave teachers a chance to develop leadership skills to use in the classroom. As the clock ticks for students to get back to school, teachers are getting a head start with this program.
Second grade teacher, Karen Edwards said, “The first habit we’re working on is being proactive which will help any classroom teacher.”
Edwards said learning about leadership and participating in programs like “Leader In Me” will help her to better serve students in the classroom.
“We’ve done a lot of team building activities so that we can get a better understanding of what it looks like what it should sound like when we take it back and implement it into our classroom,” Edwards said.
Principal Janet Gore of the elementary school said she hopes the students are three things come Monday: on time, prepared, and ready to learn.
“We know that going in some of our students are not reading on the appropriate grade level that they should be so our main focus is going to target literacy” Principal Gore said.
Through a local partnership Issac Lane received some much needed supplies.
“We are fortunate to have a partner in the community Northside Methodist church. They were gracious enough to donate tons of school supplies,” said Gore.
Gore said the open house for Issac Lane is Thursday night from 5 to 7 p.m. Parents will be able to meet and greet with faculty and staff, and get a back to school supply list right in time for tax free weekend.
