Gov’s office: Trump to visit Mississippi on Aug. 24
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Gov. Phil Bryant’s office says Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will be back in Mississippi next month.
News outlets report that he’s to attend an event Aug. 24 in the Jackson area.
Details were not released.
This would be Trump’s third visit to Mississippi. He attended rallies in Biloxi in January and in Madison the day before Mississippi’s primary election in March.
It’s unusual for major party presidential nominees to visit Mississippi, since swing states get their attention.
Mississippi last voted for a Democrat – Jimmy Carter – in 1976. The previous Democratic winner in Mississippi was Adlai Stevenson in his failed 1956 campaign against Dwight Eisenhower.
