Local Democratic Rally
JACKSON, Tenn– One political party makes a final push before the August 4th election.
Sunday the Democratic Party of Jackson held a voters rally at the Historic First Baptist Church near downtown Jackson.
“The event is to really get people interested to vote and going to the polls to vote,” event organizer Candy Savage Campbell said.
Campbell also said it’s about unity and prayer.
“We’re trying to bring everybody together and pray for our candidates. Pray that people will make the right decision august fourth election.”
Attendees had the opportunity to register on site. Something event organizer Patricia Beasley says is crucial this year.
“It’s very important because people need to know their vote is their voice and we’re trying to encourage people to be the voice. Make a choice in what’s going on in their lives today.” Beasley said.
Many Democratic candidates on the local ballot came out to show their support before the big day.
Organizers said the invitation was open to all candidates on the local ballot, not just Democrats.
Master of Ceremony Randy Lamb says it’s important to put those you want in office.
“What turns elections are people actually getting out to vote to enact the programs that are important to them and the people that are important to them.” Lamb said.
The event included songs from the choir and words from local NAACP President Harrell Carter and Reverend William Watson.
Organizers said they wanted people to leave with knowledge. “Of how important voting is and that their voice does count.” Beasley said.
