Police: Gulfport man sets fire to ex-girlfriend’s shed
GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) – A man who police say set fire to a shed belonging to his ex-girlfriend in Gulfport has been charged.
Gulfport Police Sgt. Damon McDaniel tells local media that 48-year-old Derrick Demetrios Speed was arrested and charged with arson following the fire Wednesday evening in an area neighborhood.
Gulfport Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt says firefighters found a storage shed on fire. The fire had also damaged an adjacent home.
Breyerstedt says people had been living in the shed, but that no one was home at the time of the fire.
Investigators determined that the fire had been intentionally set. Breyerstedt says witnesses reported that someone had threatened to set a fire.
McDaniel says Speed was taken into custody after police later found him.
It’s unclear if Speed has an attorney.
