FDA guidelines on E-cigs now regulate product like tobacco
JACKSON, Tenn.–One day after the federal drug administration’s guidelines tighten on e-cigarettes some businesses said this could impact their bottom line.
The FDA said e-cigarettes are now regulated just like regular cigarettes and tobacco products. Even though the liquids have nicotine, not tobacco. “It’s not the perfect solution but for me it works,” Jenai Faye said.
Faye said she smoked cigarettes for 40 years before swapping her two pack-a-day habit for vaping.”My health was declining I was having trouble walking up stairs. Now, I walk 3-4 miles a day. I can run if I have to ,” she said.
Roar Vapor owner Mike Nance said although they always made a habit of carding everyone, now he is legally required to and that is not the only change. The regulations also prevent free samples being given.
“That’s gonna be a big one for anyone wanting to try flavors for the first time they’re gonna have to pay before they can try the flavors. That’s not something they’re used to,” Nance said.
The FDA said it has contracted with various state agencies to police the new guidelines.
Records show they paid the Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s Regulatory Services Division more than $356,000 to monitor.
