Jury convicts man of murder in fatal shooting
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Union County Criminal Court jury has convicted a former Knox County Schools security officer of second-degree murder.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/2aBpBxh ) reports that 45-year-old Kevin Lee Waggoner faces 15 to 25 years in prison following Wednesday’s conviction.
Waggoner was accused of fatally shooting his neighbor, 45-year-old Michael Woodby, in Sept. 2013 following a feud. Woodby’s body was left in a ditch near state Highway 370. Waggoner was working as a security officer at Shannondale Elementary School at the time of the shooting.
This was Waggoner’s second trial related to the fatal shooting. Last year, a judge declared a mistrial because the jury at the time could not agree whether Waggoner was justified in shooting Woodby.
Waggoner’s bond has been revoked pending sentencing.
