Did tree fall on home? No, pickax-wielding man in kitchen
VANCLEAVE, Miss. (AP) – Coastal Mississippi authorities say a homeowner thought he heard a tree fall on his mobile home during a storm, went to check, and found a shirtless man with a pickax in his kitchen. While the homeowner went to get a gun, the intruder grabbed keys from a table and tried to steal the homeowner’s truck.
The homeowner ran off the intruder, who left his own truck behind.
Jackson County sheriff’s Capt. Curtis Spiers says 36-year-old Anthony Lee Smith was arrested Saturday, after 37 hours in snake- and mosquito-infested woods. He remained jailed Sunday.
Spiers doesn’t know where Smith’s from or whether he has an attorney.
Spiers says investigators first learned Smith’s name from a Louisiana traffic ticket on his dashboard.
