Manhunt ends with subject shot near Pickwick Landing State Park

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. — A car chase and resulting manhunt near Pickwick Landing State Park has ended after a subject was shot by authorities, according to the Hardin County Sheriff.

Hardin Co Marshals searchOfficers on scene said the subject is being airlifted.

No officers were injured.

There were three subjects involved in the initial pursuit, and all are now in custody, according to deputies.

The U.S. Marshals Service was involved in the incident, which reportedly began with the pursuit of a vehicle in the Counce area, as the officers pursued a person wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court on a drug charge.

Gunfire was exchanged and the chase led to a wooded area, where the sheriff said the suspects jumped out and ran. Helicopters and dogs were brought in to help in the search.

People who live in the area were kept from going to their homes, school buses were rerouted and some businesses closed early.

Two of the suspects were caught or surrendered.  The third suspect, according to the sheriff, exchanged gunfire again with officers and was hit.

 

The names nor charges for the suspects have been released.
