The weekend of welcome has been filled with opportunities for students to get connected on campus. As welcome weekend came to an end students, staff, and faculty made sure the new kids on the block felt right at home.

Leaders on campus decorated booths with creative themes to get freshmen excited about the school year and encourage them to join a life group.

Second generation bull dog, Marianne Rivera said “I’m pumped, I’m so excited. I was nervous at first but now it’s just mainly excitement.”

Rivera said she’s excited to meet some upperclassmen who can show her the ropes on campus and meet some new friends along the way.

“The other people who will end up in my life group it will be really cool to meet them and just go do things together and get more involved in Jackson.” Rivera said.

Before the freshmen start classes Monday they had an opportunity to grab a pencil, and a sheet of paper and write down their favorite life groups so they can stay connected on campus and get involved in the community.

“Everybody’s coming here to get a biblical foundation on top of a good education from all over the country and even all over the world for that matter and so it’s really cool to see how God’s working in the community in Union specifically, but then around the world.” Freshman, Jackson Crockarell  said.

The life group leaders primary goal was to build relationships with new students in a discipleship manner. The group leaders trained for the past week and a half for that day.

Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Engagement, Amiee Brassart said “we want students to enter their time at Union knowing that God’s faithfulness is what we cling to and helping them see where they will fit within that story.”

Sunday night students gathered for a new union tradition, “Les We Forget”, which is a silent moment to reflect on the past while looking towards the future. Students also heard from campus ministries.
