Judge extends plea deadline for man charged with killing Jackson store clerk
JACKSON, Tenn. — A man charged with killing a convenience store clerk in Jackson returned to court Monday.
The judge pushed Urshawn Miller’s plea cutoff date back three weeks.
“It’s my understanding that there is some plea negotiations that are currently taking place,” Madison County Circuit Court Judge Don Allen said.
The prosecutor told the judge he spoke to Miller’s attorney, a public defender, about a “possible resolution” to the case. Miller’s attorney asked the judge to give him another court date.
Judge Allen said if they cannot reach a plea agreement he will set a trial date.
Miller faces multiple counts including first-degree murder during the perpetration of a felony. He is accused of shooting and killing Ahmad Dhalai on Nov. 25 at the Bull Market on Hollywood Drive.
Miller to scheduled to return to court at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 12. He is currently being held at the Madison County Jail without bond.
