Officer resigns after suspension over Snapchat image
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Memphis police say an officer has resigned after an investigation into an image posted on a social media site showing a gun pointed at a cartoon drawing of a black boy.
News media report Michael Malone, who is white, was recently suspended after apparently posting the image on Snapchat. Memphis Police Director Michael Rallings condemned the image.
Police department spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said Monday that Malone resigned Aug. 15. He had been suspended 30 days without pay over the incident.
A black officer, James Fort, was also suspended for 30 days without pay. He reposted the image instead of reporting it to supervisors.
