Selmer opens ‘Splash Pad’ for cool summer fun
McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — Selmer unveils a new attraction to help keep resident cool as summer comes to an end.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the Dixie Park in downtown Selmer to officially welcome families to the Splash Pad.
The Selmer Chamber of Commerce hosted an adult leadership class where the idea for the Splash Pad was born.
Students said they wanted to focus their project on something that could bring families together.
“We all agreed that we wanted to do something for families and the community because there wasn’t much here for families, so that led into the Splash Pad idea,” adult leadership class member Derek Bodiford said. “And once the Splash Pad got out there, we just rolled with it.”
A fun fact about the Splash Pad — it’s actually built in a flood zone. City leaders say this is the only thing that could be built there to withstand a lot of water.
