Milan fire chaplain heads to Louisiana with Red Cross to help flood victims
MILAN, Tenn. — The city of Milan has partnered with the Tennessee Department of Fire Chaplains to send a local man to Louisiana in order to spiritually help flood victims.
Capt. John Williams of the Milan Fire Department has been a chaplain for over three years and is part of the American Red Cross.
Williams said providing spiritual guidance can help with victims dealing with depression after the devastation.
“We have somebody from every religious organization and their faith-based communities,” Capt. Williams said. “So we have contact, so if a Muslim person asks me for prayer, well I can’t do a Muslim prayer because I don’t believe like that, but I can get somebody that can. That’s how we provide spiritual care.”
Williams leaves Saturday and will be in Louisiana for 15 days.
