Police charge mother after toddler found unattended in parking lot

JACKSON, Tenn. — A mother is charged with child neglect and public intoxication after police say her toddler was found wandering unattended in an apartment complex parking lot.

Sharell Long was arrested Monday after police responded to a report of an unattended child outside an apartment complex on Old Hickory Boulevard, according to court documents.

Police say Long did not appear concerned when an officer returned her 20-month-old daughter and that she was unsteady on her feet, nearly falling while talking to the officer and while holding her other child, a month-old baby.

Long remains in custody in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
