Woman charged with breaking into Lexington day care
LEXINGTON, Tenn. — A woman is facing burglary and theft charges after police say she broke into a children’s day care and tried to steal a “felony amount” of food.
“Those were primarily frozen food items that are kept there on the property to take care of the kids for the day,” Capt. Jeff Middleton with the Lexington Police Department said.
Police responded late Thursday night to a report of a burglary in progress at Little Acorn Day Care, according to the Lexington Police Department.
Capt. Middleton said a witness watched a woman get out of a car and head toward the property before the witness flagged down a nearby officer to go investigate.
“That’s what we need. We’ve got to have public assistance and just can’t say enough about those individuals that helped us out that day,” Middleton said.
Officers reportedly found Misty Jo French of Lexington hiding on the property.
French had gone into the basement and boxed up some of the daycare’s food supply, according to police.
She is charged with burglary, theft over $500 and possession of burglary tools, according to the department.
She is being held at the Henderson County Criminal Justice Complex.
