Bruins run away with team of the week honors

JACKSON, Tenn — After their starting quarterback Jacob Buie took home the MVP of the week for week two, his team came way with the most votes for last week’s top team.

Last Saturday the Bruins took down the TCA Lions 42-7 which would be head coach Rusty Bradley’s first victory as a Bruin. The win came after a tough loss at home to FACS in week one, which Bradley was glad the loss came when it did.

“I think it was the best thing that could’ve happened for us,” said Bradley.  “Because it forced us to focus on the issues we needed to address and the things we needed to correct. We had a lot of mistakes that really had nothing to do with our opponent, it was all us, just not focusing on details. I think had we won that first game it would’ve covered up the fact that there were some things we needed to focus on.”

Bradley mentioned to me that dropped passes and mistakes on defense in week two would be the areas his team needs to improve. Take away the negatives and he thinks they score more points than that they did. But like all coaches do, they find everything wrong with their team, focusing on building them up for the future and not dwelling on the past.

“I think we just saw a glimpse of what we can be, but there’s still things we need to work on and that we need to clean up,” said Bradley.  “There were a lot of positives that we were able to come out with the win, but we still had some mistakes, some penalties, some drops and still gave up a few plays that we’d like to not give up defensively and so I think there was enough to get the win, but also enough to keep us grounded knowing that we still have a lot of work to do.”

The Bruins will look to follow up the impressive victory when his team hits the road to face TRA.
