Huntingdon police thank public for ‘backing the blue’
HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — The Huntingdon Police Department has a message for West Tennessee, saying thanks for “backing the blue.”
First responders call it a “timely purchase” — window decals now available to the public, free to pick up at the public safety office in Huntingdon.
With police and firefighters getting meals, desserts and letters from the public, Director of Public Safety Walter Smothers says he’s had a lot to be encouraged by.
“I didn’t realize that the people here — although I knew we had a lot of good people — I didn’t realize how much they appreciated and valued the emergency services that we provide,” Smothers said.
Smothers says he sees a positive change coming in the rebuilding of trust across the country. He also said he’ll order more decals as soon as they run out.
