Police: Storage unit mix-up lands woman in jail on embezzlement charge
JACKSON, Tenn. — A woman is charged with embezzlement after police say they recovered more than $1,100 worth of stolen merchandise from storage units.
Tenassa Woods is charged with stealing the goods from Once Upon a Child, her former workplace, according to an affidavit.
Court papers say Woods rented a storage unit and placed her property in the wrong unit — one that had a unit number one digit different from the one she was assigned.
When an employee of the storage center asked her to move her belongings, the employee saw numerous clothing items with tags still attached along with plastic storage bins with “Once Upon a Child” printed on the side.
The owner of Once Upon a Child came to the scene and identified $1,000 worth of merchandise stolen from the store, according to the affidavit.
Police say Woods also had moved some items to the correct unit where officers later executed a search warrant and found more merchandise from the store with tags still attached.
The total value of the stolen merchandise is listed at $1,115.
