Weather Update – 11:00 p.m. Thursday

Skies will be mostly clear tonight with winds gradually becoming lighter. This will allow the cooler and drier air to settle into the region bringing temps down to the lower and middle 60s by sunrise at 6:29 a.m. Friday morning. Cooler and clearer conditions are on the way. Get ready for a taste of Fall to kick off Labor Day weekend!

FRIDAY
It will still be breezy Friday morning and afternoon but with sunny skies, low humidity, no rain, and highs in the lower 80s! You might need a light jacket on Friday night with temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s after sunset. Temperatures will even drop to the upper 50s and low 60s by sunrise on Saturday morning!

LABOR DAY WEEKEND
Expect mainly clear skies and dry weather Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will start to warm up gradually through the weekend with a slow return in the humidity as well. Highs will be in the middle to upper 80s on Saturday and upper 80s to lower 90s on Sunday and Monday. There’s a small chance for a pop-up shower or thunderstorm Monday morning and afternoon, but most of West Tennessee should be rain-free on Labor Day.

Have a great night!

This storm is forecast to make landfall tonight and continue moving over Florida into southeastern Georgia and then South and North Carolina before moving into the Atlantic Ocean.

From the National Hurricane Center:

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

WIND: Hurricane conditions are expected to reach the coast within the warning area beginning tonight. Winds are already near tropical storm strength in portions of the warning area, making outside preparations difficult or dangerous. Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion. Tropical storm conditions are expected to begin within the warning area along the Atlantic coast on Friday, and spread northward through the weekend.

STORM SURGE: The combination of a dangerous storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. There is a danger of life-threatening inundation within the next 12 to 24 hours along the Gulf coast of Florida from Indian Pass to Longboat Key.

RAINFALL: Hermine is expected to produce storm total rainfall accumulations of 5 to 10 inches over portions of northwest Florida and southern Georgia through Friday, with possible isolated maximum amounts of 15 inches. On Friday and Saturday, Hermine is expected to produce totals of 4 to 8 inches with isolated maximum amounts of 10 inches possible across portions of eastern Georgia, South Carolina, and eastern North Carolina through Saturday. These rains may cause life-threatening floods and flash floods.

TORNADOES: A few tornadoes are possible through tonight across north Florida and southeast Georgia. The tornado risk will continue across the eastern Carolinas from Friday morning into Friday night.
