Union City police investigate armed robbery at apartment

UNION CITY, Tenn. — Police are investigating an armed robbery at a Union City apartment where three gunmen reportedly demanded guns and money.

Union City apartment robberyOfficers responded around 2 a.m. Thursday to a local emergency room where a man and woman reported the robbery.

The incident took place at an apartment in the 700 block of South Sunswept Drive, according to a report from the Union City Police Department. The man and woman told police they had been in bed asleep when the robbery occurred.

They told police that three unknown black men entered their bedroom and held them face down at gunpoint, demanding money and guns.

All three men had guns, and they pistol whipped the man in the head, according to the report.

The men also reportedly threatened to kill the couple’s baby who also had been asleep in the bedroom.

The gunmen stole $600 in cash along with a 9 mm Jennings handgun and a Taurus .40-caliber handgun before leaving, according to the report.

The suspects are described as black men and had black t-shirts covering their faces. One was around six feet tall and the other two were around five feet nine inches tall.

Police say the gunmen appeared to have entered the home by breaking into a back door.
