Racing for rescue horse show gears up in Milan
MILAN, Tenn — Beyond Bars animal rescue group hosted its 2nd racing for rescue horse show Sunday. The holiday weekend gave community members a chance to get out of the house, while helping animals of the group. Beyond Bars partnered with the Milan saddle club to raise funds for medical needs of their animals in need.
Beyond Bars President, Whitney Owen said “it’s really cool to see people come out and do something that they enjoy and everybody kind of walks away a winner they get to come out spend all day with their horses and their friends and doing the things that they really love to do.”
Beyond Bars is a foster based program so all of its animals are cared for by different volunteers until they transition into a forever home. Some of the foster parents said although people are out having a good time they may not realize how big of an impact they have on the rescue group.”
Foster, Trish Dycus said “they’re so helpful and donations help. They matter, they change lives.”
“Every dollar counts when you’re feeding countless dogs and having to do medical bills ” Foster, Bailey Sumler said.
Organizers also setup a silent auction table, which displayed before and after pictures of animals with their new families. President, Whitney Owen said she’s grateful to be surrounded by people who support the group.
“Dealing with animal rescue you deal with a lot of people that don’t care there’s a lot of apathy a dismissive attitude from the general public at large so in a situation like this where everybody that’s here supports what we’re doing it’s a great feeling.” Owen said.
Organizers said they started the day with about a hundred people registered, but expected more to join in on the fun later.
