City leaders gather to announce ‘Season of Unity’ plans
JACKSON, Tenn. — Citizens of the Hub City gathered Tuesday to promote their hope of seeing the city of Jackson come together.
Mayor Jerry Gist joined the Citizens’ Commission on Unity to announce plans for this year’s Season of Unity.
The season will kick off Oct. 1 with the start of the Jackson International Food and Art Festival, just one chapter in a seven-month celebration of diversity and cultural exchange.
“You can learn a constant learning of other cultures, and we are such a diverse community that this gives us the opportunity to have better understanding,” said Joel Newman, chairman for Seasons of Unity.
The fourth annual Season of Unity will come to an end with the Month of Miracles in April.
