Hot Start to Autumn, Cooler Next Week
Weather Update – 7:00 p.m. Thursday
Happy first day of Fall!
Today’s weather certainly doesn’t feel like we’re transitioning into cooler weather with high temperatures in the lower to middle 90s across West Tennessee. This warmer-than-average pattern will continue into the weekend with mainly dry weather. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to arrive next week with cooler conditions.
TONIGHT
What few clouds we’ve had will continue to leave the area overnight. Temperatures will start out in the lower to middle 60s again at 6:45 a.m. – sunrise Friday morning. We might have some patchy fog at daybreak but it shouldn’t be widespread.
FRIDAY
Under mostly sunny skies, temperatures will once again warm up to the lower and middle 90s Friday afternoon making it the 14th day with highs at or above 90°F in Jackson – twice as many as we have in September on average. We’ll remain rain-free with the dry weather expected to continue into the weekend.
THE WEEKEND, AND NEXT WEEK
High temperatures in the upper 80s to lower and middle 90s under mostly sunny skies will continue into Saturday and Sunday. If you have any long term projects you need to get done that require dry weather, get them done now because rain could return as early as Sunday night!
There’s still some uncertainty with next week’s forecast. The new data is still consistent with a cool-down next week. Right now, it looks like afternoon temperatures in the 70s and morning temperatures in the 50s are in store for the area. Showers and a few thunderstorms are going to be possible between Sunday night and Wednesday but the risk for severe weather looks low for right now.
