Church starts to rebuild after 2 fires destroy building

ALAMO, Tenn. — A local church is rebuilding after a fire destroyed their place of worship.

Screen Shot 2016-09-23 at 9.24.12 AMIt’s a new era for Cairo Baptist Church. Their church was destroyed in not one but two fires last July, but the church has only grown stronger.

“One of the things that we have tried to focus on is that the building is not the church — the people are,” Pastor Bob Dennison said.

Members said they had to completely tear down the church that many of them grew up in.

“Devastating. When you sit there and watch the church that you been going to most of your life burn up, well, it’s just real hard on you. A lot of tears shed that day,” building committee chairman Don Thompson said.

Now, more than a year later the church has finally started to rebuild.

“For people who have been in this church all their life and had to see the old building burn down, to actually see a new building, a new place, where we as people can meet, it’s encouraging,” Pastor Dennison said.

Church members say this tragedy has brought many blessings for the church, but the best one of all is the rebuilding of the real church.

“While it’s been challenging, the one thing that it’s been at the same time is a faith builder, because we have been able to see God just do incredible timings for this to be able to happen,” Pastor Dennison said.

First Baptist Church Adamsville donated pews that will be used in the new sanctuary. The church will be using their old steeple, communion table and other items they were able to recover from their old church.
