2 juveniles arrested in string of Lexington home burglaries

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Two juveniles have been charged in a string of home burglaries that happened early Sunday afternoon. The Lexington Police Department responded to five home burglaries within the same area.

Screen Shot 2016-09-26 at 2.24.42 PM“Literally as we were responding to one burglary, within a 15- to 20-minute period we would get a report of another burglary in the same geographical location,” said Capt. Jeff Middleton of the Lexington Police Department.

The police department released a list on social media of areas impacted by the burglaries. Capt. Middleton said they also reached out to homeowners by going door to door.

According to the Lexington Police Department Facebook page, the suspects entered the homes by breaking windows. Although officers started the day with five, more attacks were made throughout the day.

“We have subsequently been successful in clearing about, at this point nine residential burglaries,” Capt. Middleton said.

Two juveniles have been arrested and charged with nine counts of aggravated burglary and theft-related crimes. Middleton said both boys are from the same area where the burglaries took place. Police have not released their names at this time.

“We are still out there in the neighborhoods talking with the residents, and we feel like we’re going to have some additional charges,” Capt. Middleton said.

Since this is an active investigation, authorities said it’s too soon to reveal the details of the crimes.

“We’re hoping to recover more property,” Middleton said. “I just don’t want to talk about specific items right now.”

Officers stayed out all night until early Monday morning patrolling the area, and they plan to contact more residents affected by the crimes.
