Sorority schools students on voter registration

JACKSON, Tenn. — Honoring National Voter Registration Day, one group made the push Tuesday to get younger voters ready for the November election.

Voter registrationAt Madison Academic High School, Alpha Kappa Alpha hosted a push for early voting, starting Oct. 19 for the state and federal general elections including the race for president.

Organizers tell us they’re excited to help many of the next generation in their first trip to the polls.

“They are receptive to the info we are giving them, and they’re going to go out and tell their friends and their family members and get them excited about voting,” said Patricia Beasley with the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.

So far, that same group has registered more than 500 people to vote early.
