Program for youth in need now available in Hardin County

SAVANNAH, Tenn. — A new service is available in Hardin County for youth needing help providing for themselves.

youthcan web“We sit down with them first and discuss their goals, and we discuss their interests and figure out where they want to be in the next six months, the next year, or where they want their career goals to end up,” said Kali Seaton, one of the case managers for Youth CAN.

Case managers for Youth CAN already have been at work helping those who have run into obstacles in the past.

“[They could be] pregnant or parenting youth, they could be in foster care or aged out of foster care. They could be homeless, they could be couch surfing,” Seaton said.

Whatever the circumstance, Hardin County leaders said this type of counseling is a much needed service for the community.

“We’re excited for this resource that’s locally here and for a great passionate group of local Hardin Countians to help Hardin Countians stay here to be able to get an education here that may not be available to them otherwise,” said Marilee Harrison with the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce.

With this branch opening up, Youth CAN now serves 32 counties in the state.

“We want to show them their goals are reachable, and we want them to be successful when they leave us,” Seaton said.

This service is provided under the nonprofit Mid-Cumberland and is funded by the Tennessee Department of Labor.
