West Tenn. farmer grows pink mums to support breast cancer awareness

Update: The final date to order has been extended to Oct. 10. To place an order, you can contact your local CB&S Bank and pick them up next week or stop by Wildwood Farms and take one home that day.

MICHIE, Tenn. — Many mums already have begun to bloom this fall, but Jim Henry at Wildwood Farms is patiently waiting for a special color to fill his farm.

BREAST CANCER MUMS“Everybody on both sides of my family has had or died of breast cancer,” Henry said.

Wildwood Farms and CB&S Bank are painting McNairy and Hardin counties pink this October.

“Selmer, Adamsville and Savannah, and these are a whole lot bigger than they’ve ever been,” Henry said.

Henry said the hot September didn’t hinder these plants, and the blooms, which Henry has to special order each year, hold a special place in his heart.

His sister, Helen, died from breast cancer 10 years ago, but through fundraisers like this one, he helps her memory live on.

“My baby sister, I lost her to breast cancer which really has me enthused about doing it and wanting to see it grow,” Henry said.

Last year, by selling the mums, Henry said they donated $6,000 to the Darryl Worley Cancer Center.
