Man gets 25 years in prison for abuse death of infant son

JASPER, Tenn. (AP) – A Marion County man has been sentenced to prison for battering his infant son to death.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/2dvAuQz) reports a judge on Tuesday sentenced 27-year-old Christopher E. Russell to 25 years each on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the June 2012 death of 3-month-old Colin Russell.

The sentences are to be served concurrently.

Russell was named a “person of interest” after officials deemed Colin’s death “suspicious.” An autopsy revealed the child had sustained multiple injuries to his head, ribs and other areas.

A jury convicted Russell in August.

His attorney, William Bullock, request a date to file a motion for a new trial, saying he believed there was “reversible grounds for appeal” in the case. That hearing is set for February.
