Judge seeks to have criminal charges against her dropped

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Campbell County judge under criminal indictment after being accused of mishandling a number of cases is looking to have the charges dropped.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/2dOqBk0) General Sessions Judge Amanda Sammons’ attorney Wade Davies filed two separate motions seeking the dismissal of four counts of official misconduct against Sammons.

Sammons was suspended from the bench in August following a state investigation after she was accused of lying and misusing her authority in two cases.

In one motion, Davies argues the charges should be dropped because Sammons was just doing her job – even if she didn’t do it well. In the other, he contends that a prosecutor gave no reason for bowing out of a case and asking for a special prosecutor.
