Dream Center searches for new home
JACKSON, Tenn. — For more than a decade, the Dream Center has helped women and children in east Jackson.
The clock is ticking before they have to be out, and the pressure is on to find a place to go.
“It has to be up to code, and so that’s hard to find, unless you find a hotel or an old nursing home or hospital,” said Gail Gustafson with the Dream Center.
The building will soon occupy a psychiatric hospital as the owners sold it to a company out of North Carolina, Gustafson said.
“I ask the community just to come together, tell everybody. There’s somebody that can help with funding. There are a couple of opportunities, but they cost money and the Dream Center works on a very small budget,” Gustafson said.
Gustafson said they’ve recently launched a $3.5 million capital campaign to try and help the nearly 50 women and children they serve.
The waiting list continues to grow as the center teaches parenting, budgeting and other life skills.
“It’s all based on Jesus Christ and a relationship with him, and when you give people a hand up instead of a hand out, you’re teaching them to be self sufficient in every aspect of their life, and that’s what the Dream Center is about,” Gustafson said.
There are other businesses in this facility which were also bought out or having to move.
