Enthusiasts hope to make croquet a new Jackson pastime
JACKSON, Tenn. — In what could be a new step in Jackson athletics, local athletes, including Mayor Jerry Gist, got the chance Wednesday to play on the city’s first official croquet field.
Two croquet lawns were set up to drum up interest in the sport and see what steps will need to be taken to open the sport to the public.
“This is a new setup using this property, which is wonderful for croquet, and we’re just trying to promote the sport of croquet in the city of Jackson,” said Bob Kroeger, director of United States Croquet Association Instructional Schools.
Once everything is ready, the croquet lawns will be open to the public for players ages 10 and older.
