Salvation Army prepares to “ring in” the holidays with annual Red Kettle campaign

JACKSON, Tenn.- Soon the sound of bells will be filling the Hub City as the Salvation Army begins its Christmas Red Kettle Campaign Drive,
but they need your help.

Organizers said they are looking bell ringers to man the kettles outside area businesses. They would prefer volunteers, but are also taking applications for paid bell ringers.

Officials said the Red Kettle Campaign raises the most significant portion of their funding  and that it will help to provide toys and assistance to about 300 families in the area this year. Plus, it may even get you in the holiday spirit.

“To greet the people coming in and out of the stores, to get involved in the Christmas spirit and to know that you’re helping people at the same time. The time that you’re standing there in front of that kettle, raising that money, that what you’re doing is going to help somebody who’s less fortunate,” said Major Joseph May of the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army will be accepting those applications on November 2 at 10 a.m. and at 6 p.m. at the Corps Community Center at 125 Allen Avenue in east Jackson.
