Henry Co. Sheriff’s Office gives away inmate-grown turnip greens

HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. — Some folks are eating well after the Henry County Sheriff’s Office gave away around 200 bags of turnip greens.

The sheriff says this is a great way to allow the inmates to still be involved in the community.

“Inmates do build credits when they are working in programs like that, like the inmate gardens or the Deputies for the Hungry program, and it’s a good situation,” Sheriff Monte Belew said. “They give back to the community. Citizens like it. Who doesn’t like something free that you like anyway?”

Next week, the sheriff’s office will begin transitioning into its yearly deer processing program.
