Memphis man convicted of reckless homicide in retrial
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A Memphis man has been found guilty of reckless homicide in the retrial of a 1996 case involving the death of his toddler daughter.
The Commercial Appeal reports a jury convicted Benjamin Brown on Saturday. He faces up to four years in prison.
In 1999 Brown was convicted by a Shelby County Criminal Court jury and received a life sentence for first-degree murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse and 25 years for aggravated child abuse.
The murder conviction was later thrown out by the state Supreme Court, leading to the retrial.
Brown’s attorney, Lorna McCluskey, says the child abuse conviction is still in review.
Brown is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 30.
