Shelby County DA faces more disciplinary charges from board
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich is facing more disciplinary charges from a state board in connection with a murder case she handled as a prosecutor.
Media outlets report that the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Supreme Court of Tennessee says prosecutors in the Noura Jackson’s 2009 murder trial did not turn over a key witness statement to the defense until after the trial.
The board has already charged that Weirich improperly commented on Jackson’s right to remain silent during a rebuttal closing argument
Weirich was the lead prosecutor in the trial of Jackson, who was convicted of fatally stabbing her mother. But the Supreme Court later ordered a new trial.
Last year, Jackson entered a plea and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. She has been released.
