Whitmore continues power surge
JACKSON, Tenn — Earlier in the 2016 season, Rufus Whitmore was the Jackson Christian Eagles starting running back. Midway through the season, he lost his job. Well Whitmore got his starting spot back and when he did, there was no looking back. The first seven games of the season he scored two touchdowns. Since his return, he’s registered three touchdowns in each of the three remaining games to bring his total to 11. He said him being benched was the best thing possible that could’ve happened.
“To be honest at the beginning of the season I was kind of slacking,” Whitmore said. “I wasn’t doing my job, I was letting my teammates down. I wasn’t as focused as I should have been and I lost my starting position and then at the Mckenzie game, the new starter got hurt, that’s when I focused in.”
With his strong performance in the teams district games, he helped Jackson Christian earn a home playoff game this Friday against Riverside.
