McNairy Co. woman wanted, accused of sexual relationship with teen

McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A family needs your help finding a woman they say took advantage of a teenage boy.

Amber Hawkins 2

Tina, the alleged victim’s grandmother, didn’t want to share her last name to protect her grandson’s identity. She says 28-year-old Amber Hawkins took advantage of her 15-year-old grandson.

Tina said Hawkins engaged in a sexual relationship with her grandson for some time.

“It took us about two years to find the evidence because my grandson wouldn’t admit to it right away. We found a letter, a love letter, between her and him and then that way he couldn’t deny it anymore,” Tina said.

Tina said what is even more disturbing about the situation is that Hawkins was family.

“I brought this woman into my house as my daughter. I loved her as a daughter. She was married to my son at one time,” Tina said.

Tina said the situation was happening right in her own house and she had no clue.

“She would watch all the grand kids, so I didn’t think anything was happening, and it was happening right under my nose,” Tina said.

The McNairy County Sheriff’s Office has several active arrest warrants for Hawkins including charges of statutory rape, aggravated statutory rape and sexual contact with a minor.

“It makes me angry. It makes me sad that I didn’t catch it,” Tina said. “I was molested when I was a child by a man. I should have caught it.”

Tina said although she could not prove it, she knew something was not right.

“I did tell her one time that I thought he had a little crush on her, and she just laughed,” Tina said. “I would have gotten mad if I would have known that now. I just thought she was being her normal self.”

The McNairy County sheriff says they have been trying to find Hawkins for months. He says every time they seem to close in, she slips away.
