Archivists in Jackson to digitize artifacts from World War I
JACKSON, Tenn.-Nearly a century ago, America found itself fighting in a war that ravaged parts of Europe, the middle east and North Africa.
Thursday, archivists with the state library and archives were in Jackson to help preserve the history of World War I and its affects on Tennesseans.
The specialists were at the library in downtown Jackson to digitally scan and photograph documents, maps, photographs, uniforms, and other artifacts related to the war, owned by private citizens.
“A lot of this material has not been seen by anybody but family members in the last 100 years, so we’re trying to get this material out. We document it, photograph it of scan it,” said Myers Brown, an archivist with the Tennessee State Library and Archives.
Items will be digitally recorded from 9 until 11:30 a.m. , Friday at the library.
